Barnes is at work on her second book, “The Pacific War: A Global History of World War II” (under contract with Routledge Press). The book draws on multi-archival research to provide a new perspective on World War Two in Asia by looking at not only familiar British, American, and Japanese perspectives on the conflict but also on the underappreciated role of China and the experiences of colonised peoples in Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia. In so doing, it will challenge the way in which the Second World War is remembered in the west.
She is also leading an international workshop series, “Global Perspectives on Good Governance.” This is a joint project between City, University of London and Tokyo Metropolitan University. It is made possible by the generous support of the Daiwa Anglo Japanese Foundation and the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
